Bob Hoffer Discusses Receiving Thomas More University’s 2024 Bishop William A. Hughes Award

Congratulations to DBL Law’s Managing Partner Bob Hoffer on being awarded this year’s Thomas More University Bishop Hughes Award. The award, which was established in 1996, recognizes those who notably support Catholic education as well as Thomas More University.

• 0:07 that you know my parents instilled is
• 0:12 that there’s an opportunity every day
• 0:15 for us to make a difference in someone’s
• 0:18 life
• 0:21 and many days I’ll miss
• 0:24 it but the great news is is that I’ll
• 0:27 have another opportunity tomorrow you
• 0:30 know I think that um there are so many
• 0:33 people that um don’t have the blessings
• 0:38 uh in terms of being able to do things
• 0:40 for their family in terms of Education
• 0:43 in terms of safety uh terms of hunger so
• 0:46 we encourage all the people here at DBL
• 0:48 and everyone does it it’s not just one
• 0:50 person as a team uh the whole DBL family
• 0:53 really acts in concert to find
• 0:56 Opportunities every day to make
• 0:58 someone’s life better whether it be
• 1:00 through a nonprofit uh welcome house or
• 1:03 dios cathic children’s home or s e
• 1:05 Foundation or cancer-free kids every one
• 1:08 of those opportunities is looking to
• 1:11 make someone’s life better uh going
• 1:13 forward it’s incumbent upon all of us to
• 1:16 to Really reflect um are we going to
• 1:18 give those children and those families
• 1:21 the opportunity that we had uh so I
• 1:23 think it’s important for all of us to
• 1:25 look for those opportunities you know I
• 1:26 think uh here at DBL U AQ is a huge part
• 1:30 of of one of the nonprofits that we
• 1:32 support trying to allow uh children in
• 1:35 the inner cities and their families to
• 1:37 really be engaged in Catholic Education
• 1:40 we do the same thing in Cincinnati and
• 1:42 and look for opportunities in Louisville
• 1:44 as well every community that the DBL is
• 1:46 involved in we look for opportunities to
• 1:49 really allow children uh a future of
• 1:52 Hope um I think if we all recognize that
• 1:56 every day we have an obligation to try
• 1:58 to find someone to make a difference in
• 2:01 their
• 2:01 [Music]
• 2:03 life be a better
• 2:06 place this whole award in particular is
• 2:11 uh is very significant for me because
• 2:14 nothing we do in life is done without a
• 2:16 great team who works collectively
• 2:18 together to achieve that that common
• 2:20 Mission you know we at DBL have been
• 2:23 involved uh with Thomas Moore for over
• 2:25 40 years you know my law Partners now to
• 2:29 ceased Jack lell uh started that process
• 2:32 and and Jim dressman as well and uh Mark
• 2:36 gilo and Nick birkenhauer just so many
• 2:39 you know uh ways that DBL is intertwined
• 2:42 with Thomas Moore this award is
• 2:44 particularly special for me uh because
• 2:47 it’s it’s an honor of Bishop Hughes just
• 2:49 a wonderful man very much of a uh quiet
• 2:53 leader um who was there for everyone in
• 2:57 good times and in bad you know I think
• 2:59 that that to have the award in his honor
• 3:03 um you particularly with his
• 3:05 relationship with uh my uncle father
• 3:08 Hofer um I remember when my uncle had
• 3:11 cancer um Bishop Hughes didn’t have time
• 3:14 but he visited him every day in the
• 3:16 hospital you know I think that that’s
• 3:19 the kind of person that he was uh very
• 3:21 very
• 3:22 fatherly um very his arms were always
• 3:25 open and uh for me this is the the uh
• 3:29 just an ultimate um award uh to really
• 3:34 kind of bind together uh Thomas Moore uh
• 3:38 my mom uh my uncle and and Bishop Hughes
• 3:42 so I’m extremely honored by this uh very
• 3:45 grateful uh to Thomas Moore for this
• 3:48 nomination it’s something I’ll treasure
