Kentucky Defense Counsel Recognizes DBL Partner David Kramer

The statewide civil defense lawyers’ organization Kentucky Defense Counsel presented a special Executive Committee Award to DBL Law partner David Kramer upon his stepping down after nearly seven years as Chair of KDC’s Amicus Curiae Committee. The award was presented at the organization’s Fall Conference in Louisville on November 15.

David Kramer served as Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee from early 2013 through November 2019. During that time, KDC submitted amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) briefs in 13 Kentucky appellate cases. Of the ten cases that have been decided, appellate court opinions aligned with positions advocated by KDC in eight of them. Kramer co-authored amicus briefs in two of those eight cases as well as one of the three that remain pending on appeal. He helped select cases and enlist authors as well as reviewed and edited briefs in the remaining cases.

In receiving the award, Kramer thanked KDC’s Executive Committee for the recognition and gave primary credit to the KDC members who volunteered as authors of the amicus briefs, saying “they are the ones who did the heavy lifting” and deserved the recognition. He said he would accept the award on their behalf.

Kramer chairs DBL Law’s Civil Litigation Practice Group and handles trials and appeals in the areas of medical liability, products liability, and commercial litigation. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and Litigation Counsel of America. Among his other honors, he has been named one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Kentucky by Super Lawyers and was recognized in the 2019 and 2020 Editions of Best Lawyers in America for health-care litigation. He also received the Defense Lawyer of the Year Award from KDC in 2016.
