October 18, 2016 – DBL Law partner David V. Kramer has been named “Defense Lawyer of the Year” by Kentucky Defense Counsel (KDC), a statewide organization of civil defense lawyers organized to increase the quality of legal services and improve the administration of justice in Kentucky. The award is granted annually to an attorney based on achievement in the practice of civil litigation defense and on service to the organization. It will be presented at the KDC Fall Seminar and Awards Luncheon in Lexington this November.

In the year prior to winning the award, Dave successfully tried two multi-week civil jury trials to defense verdict. He was the lead counsel for the primary defendant in both trials. In addition, he prevailed in three civil appeals and obtained summary judgments for his clients in two other cases, with no adverse results in any trials or appeals.

Dave continues to serve as Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee of KDC, monitoring appellate cases and looking for opportunities to weigh in on behalf of the defense bar. The two reported cases in which KDC has filed amicus briefs during his tenure as Chair were decided favorably toward the defense, including a 2016 Kentucky Supreme Court decision in which Dave co-authored the amicus brief for KDC (Riggs v. State Farm).

Named one of the Top 50 lawyers in Kentucky for 2016 by Super Lawyers, Dave has been named a Super Lawyer in the area of medical malpractice defense since 2011, and was inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America, the honorary trial lawyer society, in 2009. Dave was the primary author of the 2005 6th edition of Vols. 6 and 7 of the Kentucky Practice series and continues to maintain their annual updates. Those volumes are recognized as the leading reference on Kentucky civil procedure. In addition, he has served as a Special Justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Dave regularly lectures on civil litigation for various organizations, including the Kentucky Bar Association, KDC, the Salmon P. Chase American Inn of Court, and the Northern Kentucky Bar Association. He chairs the Litigation Practice Group at DBL Law, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Medical Malpractice Section.

He has a long record of public and community service, including service on the Kentucky Lottery Corporation Board of Directors from 1993-98, and service on the Crestview Hills City Council (including service as Chair of its Zoning and Economic Development Committee) and on the Lakeside Park/Crestview Hills Police Authority Board from 2000 to present.
