Emma Gripshover

Associate

Emma is an associate attorney in DBL Law’s Medical Liability, Health Care, and Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice groups. Her practice focuses primarily on defending hospitals, physicians, nurses, and long-term care facilities against claims of medical negligence. Emma also represents individuals and businesses in personal injury and commercial litigation matters.

Emma was raised in a household of medical professionals. She became interested in healthcare from an early age and decided to explore these interests during her undergraduate at Xavier University. Emma graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Health Services Administration and minors in Business and Spanish.

While attending Xavier, she established a Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Emma also worked at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she assisted on public health initiatives seeking to lower Cincinnati’s infant mortality rate. Her love of healthcare and politics led her to pursue her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

During law school, Emma was an Editor for the University of Cincinnati Law Review and a Legal Research Assistant focused on disability and employment law. Prior to joining DBL Law, Emma interned at respected nonprofit and Fortune 100 companies, including TriHealth, Inc., The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and The Kroger Co.

Emma is an avid soccer fan who you can find in The Bailey at FC Cincinnati games or on the field with DBL Law’s recreational soccer team. She is a Northern Kentucky native and graduate of Covington Latin School. She currently resides in Newport, KY.

Appellate Decisions
  • Affirmance of summary judgment by the Kentucky Supreme Court in a premises liability action due to Plaintiff’s failure to produce sufficient evidence of negligence against hospital. Smith v. St. Claire Regional Medical Center, No. 2023-SC-0528 (Feb. 8, 2024).  
  • Affirmance of summary judgment on unconstitutionality of statute, KRS 311.1939, which constituted special legislation. Coleman v. CorneaGen, Inc., No. 2023-CA-0093 (Ky. App. Feb. 9, 2024).
Trial Court Decisions
  • Summary judgment on behalf of healthcare provider on statute of limitations grounds. Missall v. Hillspring of Springboro, Warren C.P. No. 22 CV 95338 (May 5, 2024)
  • Successful defense of a challenge to a hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination policy. Beckerich v. St. Elizabeth Med. Ctr., 563 F. Supp. 3d 633 (E.D. Ky. 2021).
