The state of Kentucky has decided to delay the implementation of its of Medicaid managed care program by one month. The start-up date will now be November 1st, which will give providers more time to prepare, but will cost the state about $9.2 million of its projected savings from the plan.
The delay was necessary for the hospitals and managed care organizations to agree on contract documents that will allow the Medicaid system to function effectively. Advocates for Medicaid beneficiaries also voiced concern that the October 1st start-up date did not allow sufficient time for beneficiaries to acquaint themselves with the changes contained in the new program.
