Patrick R. Hughes practices extensively in the areas of banking, commercial transactions and economic development and represents clients in government licensing and administrative law matters.  He is admitted to practice law in both Kentucky and Ohio.

Patrick has provided legal counsel on a number of significant transactions and cases including:

  • The development of the Kentucky Speedway, including the financing, construction and concession/alcoholic beverage licensing. 
  •  The formation of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

  • City of Covington, et al. v. Kenton County (Ky. Sup. Ct. Case No. 2001-SC-000479-T), wherein Patrick represented the combined interests of SECO Electric, Inc. and the Greater Cincinnati Building and Construction Trades Council in overturning a burdensome increase in the Kenton County's payroll tax rate.

    Patrick obtained a B.B.A. degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1990 and a law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1994.  Prior to joining Deters, Benzinger & LaVelle, Patrick served as principal assistant and legal counsel to the Secretary of the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet, where he was responsible for numerous policy matters involving capital projects, property management, procurement and financial management.  He is a member of the Northern Kentucky, Kentucky and Ohio State Bar Associations.  Patrick also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Family Services of Greater Cincinnati, the Governance Committee of Senior Services of Northern Kentucky and the Board of Directors of the Kenton County Library Foundation.  Formerly, Patrick has served on the Board of Education for Covington Latin School and the Board of Directors of Senior Services of Northern Kentucky.
