Emily Kirtley Hanna is an associate in the firm's Litigation Group with an emphasis in Commercial, Banking, Collections and Employment litigation. She is based in the firm's Crestview Hills office.
Prior to joining Deters, Benzinger & LaVelle, Emily was an associate attorney with Coley & Associates, Co. L.P.A. in Cincinnati. Prior to that she was a law clerk for Paul J. Schachter & Associates in Fort Mitchell, KY.
Emily obtained her law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 2003, and has a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Northern Kentucky University. While attending law school, Emily was a member of the Salmon P. Chase Moot Court Board and the National Trial Advocacy Team, as well as the author of the 2003 Salmon P. Chase Moot Court Competition Problem. She also competed in the Kentucky Mock Trial Advocacy Competition (First Runner Up), ALTA National Trial Advocacy Competition (Second place in Columbus, Ohio Region), and the National Telecommunications Moot Court Competition of Catholic University/Columbus School of Law.
Emily currently serves as a Board of Director for the Welcome House of Northern Kentucky which provides services for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. In addition, Emily is an adjunct faculty member of the Salmon P. Chase College of Law wherein she teaches law students trial advocacy skills. In November 2005, Emily coached a team of law students from Chase who tied for First Place in the Ohio State mock trial competition held in Cleveland, Ohio.
Emily is currently involved in the planning of a fundraiser, in honor of her late mother, to benefit breast cancer research and generate scholarships for students attending Notre Dame Academy. She resides in Newport with her husband.
