Alan J. Hartman heads the firm's Computer and Information Technology Practice Group, and is partner-in-charge of the firm's Cincinnati, Ohio office. He provides a broad range of legal services to technology companies and other businesses. Alan's motto is "Taking the business approach to legal issues, not the legal approach to business issues!"
In 1983, Alan became in-house counsel for Cincom Systems, Inc., a large privately held software company headquartered in Cincinnati. From 1993-1996, Alan served as Cincom's General Counsel and managed the company's legal department. In 1996, he became the first in-house counsel for LanVision Systems, Inc., a publicly held software company in Cincinnati, serving as LanVision's Vice President and General Counsel. In 1998, Alan opened his own private practice and developed a successful practice focused on the legal issues affecting computer, Internet, and information technology businesses. In January 2001, he joined Deters, Benzinger & LaVelle to establish and grow its technology practice group.
Alan and his wife, Jann, have four children. He is active in his church, serving his parish as a commissioned lay pastoral minister, and participating in and facilitating various parish activities. He coaches his youngest son's soccer team. Alan is also a Trustee and the President of Franciscans Network, a nonprofit corporation that supports Franciscans and other men and women who work to promote and protect human rights throughout the world.
