Daniel McKinney is Of Counsel to Deters, Benzinger & LaVelle, consulting with the firm on estate planning and probate for Ohio clients and on retirement plan legal matters and litigation. Dan has been an attorney for 50 years and has been in private practice since 1958. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1954 after obtaining his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University.
Having enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after law school, Dan served first in active duty and, after graduating with distinction as an honor student from the Naval Justice School at Newport, RI, was certified by the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Navy as a Legal Officer. His last duty was Legal Officer at Marine Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He retired from the Corps as a Captain in 1963.
Dan was one of the first Ohio attorneys to be named a Board-certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law by the Ohio State Bar Association Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Specialty Board. In 2003, 2004, and 2005, he was designated a "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics and Cincinnati magazines, an honor which ranks him among the top five percent of attorneys in the state.
Dan serves as a trustee and secretary of the Council of Economic Initiatives, which conducts study tours for underdeveloped countries such as Ukraine, Moldova, and the former republics of the Soviet Union. In addition, Dan serves on the Council of the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Ohio. He is past president of The Cincinnati chapter of The Ohio State University and Harvard Law School Alumni Associations. He is also a former president and trustee of the Cincinnati Squash Racquets Association.
Dan is admitted to practice in Ohio and Washington, D.C. He resides in Hyde Park with his wife of 44 years, Judith. |
