Crestview Hills, KY; January 30, 2007 — David W. Burleigh, James A. Dressman III, Mark D. Guilfoyle and Alan J. Hartman partners in the law firm of Deters, Benzinger and LaVelle (DBL), were recognized in the February/March 2007 issue of Cincy Business Magazine as four of the top lawyers in the tri-state area. These DBL partners are among 143 area attorneys featured in the publication’s “Leading Lawyers” list, compiled from nominations by recipients’ peers.
Burleigh practices in the areas of commercial litigation, closely-held businesses, estate litigation and private foundation law. Recognized for his commitment to the community, Burleigh most recently served in a long-range planning group for St. Gertrude parish, which created a master site plan and conducted a large capital campaign, resulting in the construction of a new elementary school. In addition, he contributed his talents as a member of Build Cincinnati, a non-partisan political reform group that spearheaded the “executive mayor” revisions to the City of Cincinnati charter. Burleigh has also served as a member of the Corporate Leadership Council of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Burleigh graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1995 and is a member of the Cincinnati, Ohio State, Northern Kentucky, and Kentucky Bar Associations.
Dressman heads the commercial law and banking practice at DBL. His practice includes banking law, commercial transactions, tax law, estate planning and real estate. Deeply committed to serving the community, he is a prior board member and past president of Senior Services of Northern Kentucky, and is presently a member of: the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Board of Advisors, the Diocese of Covington Planned Giving Committee, St. Charles Care Center Planned Giving Committee, the Thomas More College Foundation Board, Thomas More College Major Gifts Committee, the Huntington National Bank Regional Advisory Board (Southern Ohio/Northern Kentucky Region) and the board of directors of Northern Kentucky Volunteer Lawyers, Inc. Dressman obtained a law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1977 and is a member of the Ohio State, Northern Kentucky, and Kentucky Bar Associations.
Guilfoyle heads the administrative law section at DBL. He practices in the areas of government affairs, labor and employment relations, and economic development matters. Guilfoyle has served on the Advisory Board that oversees the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (1998-2004), as well as the Kentucky League for Educational Alternatives (1998-2004). He currently serves as a vice chairman of the Alliance for Catholic Urban Education, an effort devoted to enhancing Catholic education in Northern Kentucky’s inner cities, and on the Board of Trustees of the Northern Kentucky University Foundation. He obtained a law degree with honors from George Washington University in 1983 and is a member of the Northern Kentucky and Kentucky Bar Associations.
Hartman heads the firm’s Computer & Information Technology Practice Group. He is also partner-in-charge of the firm’s downtown Cincinnati office. He practices in business law with an emphasis on computer, Internet, and information technology law. Hartman is a member of the Ohio State, Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky Bar Associations, the Christian Legal Society, and the Computer Law Association. In addition, he is on the Internet/e-Commerce & Computer Law Committee (past Committee Chair), Corporate Counsel Committee, and International Law Committee of the Cincinnati Bar Association, and the Computer Law Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association. He is a trustee and the president of Franciscans Network, a nonprofit corporation that works to promote and protect human rights throughout the world. He obtained his law degree from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1978.
